So America (and Other Countries) 'Rigged' the Olympics

Well, this story broke yesterday (16th August) and who was the broadcaster of this stupid assertion? Yes, who else: Russia! And why the Olympics Committee allowed them to appear in the first place is still debatable. So, forget the background issues, the country competed at the games under the ridiculous appellation: the Russian Olympic Committee. Christ, you couldn't make it up.

And so how did this 'committee' finish in the medals tally? Well, they came fifth in the gold medal league and I'm sure the country's vainglorious leader, Putin, was really pissed off to come lower than the USA and Great Britain. Live with it, wee man! Have a few vodkas!

Then on Yahoo sport we get this statement: Russian lawmaker Aleksei Zhuravlyov said other countries at the Olympics were "a pack of Russophobic beasts, headed by the United States." Oh really; imagine that. Then there was this female, Olga Skabeeva, a TV host for the Russia-1 TV state-owned television channel, saying that the Tokyo Games were the "clearest example of total Russophobia." And then, "These Olympic Games stink!"

Listen, it gets worse. One, Pyotr Tolstoy, deputy speaker of the Russian State Duma, said: “Americans are freaks. Moral freaks. Why are we even discussing this parade of freaks and perverts?” Well, that’s a good question Mr. Tolstoy - oh, are you in any way related to Leo? Well, you asked the question; why not answer it?

The fact remains, the Russians don’t particularly like the West, and by the West, I mean the UK, the US, Germany, Italy, in fact all EU countries. They also don’t have much admiration for the likes of Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan - the list goes on! One does feel that an old, dormant Soviet Union mind-set still lurks in the deepest regions of the Russian psyche. And when it comes to the latest developments in Afghanistan, I am sure both Russia and China are glorifying in much schadenfreude related to America and the UK’s withdrawal from the country. Schadenfreude? This is a much-used German noun meaning ‘deriving much pleasure from the misfortune of others’.

Next year, in February to be exact, the winter Olympics will be held in China. It will be interesting to see if the Chinese will allow a full Russian team to compete and not this absurd Russian Olympic Committee.

I would end this blog by reminding people that Russia was found to have used extensive ‘doping’ among their athletes at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. I would simply say this, just Google Russia’s doping history dating back all the way to 2002. I’ll just say that back in November 2015, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) accused the country of operating a widespread, state-sponsored doping programme that included covering up positive testing.

And they called the Americans ‘freaks’? The real ‘freaks’ are alive and kicking it off in the ex-Soviet Union country!
